National Advisory Board
Youth Shaping the Future of Education Research
We believe that education research must start with students.
Our National Advisory Board brings together high school students with learning differences to serve as co-researchers. Partnering with students, as well as their educators and families, ensures our science is grounded in authentic expertise and leads to more meaningful outcomes for all learners.
The National Advisory Board is a structured, year-long program where they design tools, analyze data, and contribute to scholarship. This partnership model empowers students to directly influence the future of inclusive education and the science of The Education Collaboratory.
Our Focus
Students most affected by education research should have a leading role in shaping it. Our National Advisory Board is a defining feature of our inclusion work, functioning as a space where young people serve as active research partners advancing research that matters most to them.
What We’re Building
Through our innovative, collaborative model, our advisors are actively developing the tools, research methods, and public scholarship needed to reshape public education.
Our youth-led research:
- models a new relationship between students and institutional research that is built around rigorous research partnership and shared expertise.
- brings together a national group of high school students from diverse backgrounds, ensuring that a wide range of lived experiences direct our core inclusion agenda
What We Learned
Our National Advisory Board hires more than two dozen high school students with learning differences as paid, working researchers who design, test, and co-author our research studies.
What This Means
Using the Research
Educators
Educators can learn how to meaningfully center youth voices in their own school buildings, recognizing and amplifying students with learning differences as experts in their own education journeys.
Researchers & Policymakers
Researchers and policymakers can use the upcoming inclusive language and practices tool for adolescents to ensure your research design, academic studies, and legislative policies respect, protect, and unapologetically amplify the agency of young people with learning differences.
